The Chatham Home is a luxury home décor and furniture store located on Main Street in downtown Chatham, Massachusetts. Take a walk down Main Street and into The Old Village to see many historic sights, houses, and businesses. Our beautiful building dates back to 1818 and was once a private home, boarding school, beloved restaurant, and now The Chatham Home.
The Story of Our Historic Home
c. 1818
The original full Cape was built c. 1818 by Capt. Isaiah Lewis, whose daughter ran a private school there.
1887
The house was purchased by Edmund Eldredge, who raised it up and gave it a new first floor. There, he ran a boarding house. Harding replaced the original second story, redoing it in the Dutch Colonial style, and renovated the first floor.
1913
Attorney Heman Harding was one of Chatham’s early 20th century boosters. In 1913, he bought 443 Main St. for his family. The house was one of the first to be electrified in 1915.
1960
The building became a restaurant called The Chatham Arms.
1981
Christian’s Restaurant opened and became a beloved local restaurant for almost 30 years.
2012
443 Main St. was renovated and Midsummer Nights moved in.
